Still Life

A number of items — chosen by an artist and carefully arranged in a self-contained assemblage — form a still life. The objects — jugs, books, dishes, glasses, fruit, flowers — are all familiar to us. But their selection and juxtaposition produce a new and unique entity, a slice of life. Still lifes are immobile and have a marvellous quality of lastingness.
